Calories Video and New Album

Following the short, sharp burst that was the release of their debut album Adventuring, Calories return with sophomore album Basic Nature, released on September 13th via Tough Love Records.

Basic Nature sees Calories compliment melodic hooks with frenetic noise, recalling such underground titans as Hot Snakes, Cap ‘N’ Jazz and No Age. Calories’ emphatic energy is a trait that caught the band audiences around the UK, alongside the likes of The Thermals, Sky Larkin, Dananananaykroyd, Lovvers and Johnny Foreigner. Drowned in Sound credited the band with playing a “truly stirring indie-rock, with plenty of gang vocal sing-along parts and hooks large enough to hang a Great White on.”

Recorded “at various times and in curious locations”, Basic Nature is a continuation of the stirring indie-rock of their Adventuring album. “Orchard Girls” harks back to Captain-era Idlewild, while lead single “FFWD” features gang vocals and a pop-laden chorus. The album also offers moments of calm in ”The Offer”, as well as a soaring climax in “Habitations”.

Basic Nature will be released on September 13th as a combined vinyl and CD set, as well as on download.

Single “FFWD” will be released via digital download only on August 30th, accompanied by a video by acclaimed director Ollie Evans (Foals, Klaxons).
